Simple Color Sort

This is one of those learning activities my 3 year old came up with on his own and I just helped extend it a bit.

I hadn't yet put away the placemats from breakfast so my little one took a mat off the table, laid it on the floor and began finding red items to match it.  He then went in our placemat drawer and took out a brown mat and began doing the same thing.  Since he was so into this self-made activity, I pulled out a piece of construction paper in each color of the rainbow and laid them out on the floor.

We then took out my son's large back of Mr. Potato Head parts and he began sorting them onto the pieces of colored paper.

This turned out to be a super simple learning activity that can be quickly recreated using legos, crayons or anything you have laying around that has multiple pieces of similar color.  And, don't mind the missing pants...he's in the middle of potty training!

I'm a creative being with a very active 3 year old boy at home.  I enjoy spending my days chasing him around and finding new and interesting ways to keep him busy and learning at the same time.  I have a degree in Elementary Education and spent most of my younger years working with children of all ages.
