As most creative mothers do, I always save empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls though I'm not always sure what to do with them. But one day my 3 year old and I decided to tape one to the wall. And we didn't stop there...
We grabbed all the empty rolls we had in the house, a couple rolls of masking tape since it wouldn't take off the paint and was easy to rip (painter's tape would work well too), a bag of marbles, my visiting niece and went to town creating a very elaborate marble drop on the wall.
My niece is much, much taller than my little one so she began to build up while he continued to build down. He even made a marble drop more his size when he realized his cousin was going crazy perfecting the larger one. His favorite part of it all was testing their creations every few seconds by dropping marbles through the cracks between the empty rolls!
They continued to work on this project for a good hour, constantly reorganizing the empty rolls so that the marbles flowed freely.

Once they finished creating, it was time to test it! They placed a few cups on the floor and challenged themselves to place the cups in just the right spot so that the marbles would drop in them. It took a little while but they accomplished their goal and had a great time doing it!
